Why You Should Join

For nearly a century, the Farm Bureau has been representing the interests of Ventura County’s agricultural community. As the area’s oldest and largest agricultural association, we’ve worked with generations of policy makers, legislators, regulators, journalists and civic leaders to make sure they understand and appreciate the critical role agriculture has played — and continues to play — in Ventura County’s history, economy and culture.

We fight for sensible land-use policies. We protect the county’s water supply and local water quality. We encourage regulators to adopt effective but fair pesticide rules, and we mediate conflicts between growers and their urban neighbors. We serve as a reliable source of public information about agriculture. And we offer individual farmers and ranchers the opportunity to unite with others who share their concerns and interests, so they can speak with one powerful voice at the local, state and national levels.

Who is Eligible?

Everyone is eligible to apply for Farm Bureau membership and receive the many benefits and services available.

Farmers and ranchers who receive income from production agriculture join as Agricultural Members and receive the weekly Ag Alert, California's No. 1 agricultural trade journal. All others join as Associate Members and receive the bimonthly California Country magazine, filled with useful information and background on food production, home gardening and other subjects.

Agricultural members also receive Farm Bureau of Ventura County’s monthly newsletter, and all members receive the quarterly Central Coast Farm & Ranch magazine, which includes news, features, photography and commentary about agriculture in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

Young Farmers & Ranchers

Open to any agriculturist between the ages of 18 and 35, Farm Bureau's Young Farmers & Ranchers organization helps young men and women involved in production, banking, business and many other areas of the industry develop leadership skills while volunteering time as active members of the county Farm Bureau. YF&R members have the opportunity to attend seminars on leadership training, and learn how to promote their commodities as well as the industry. They learn about issues and how to resolve them, meet and work with legislators, and also make valuable professional contacts. The program also has an important social component: Participants have an opportunity to cultivate friendships with other young people in agriculture who share the same interests and challenges.

Farm Bureau of Ventura County has an active and engaged YF&R Committee. Members get together regularly for barbecue dinners and other social events, and have developed an aggressive set of goals and objectives. Learn more about them by visiting the group on Facebook.
